Arsenal survive Crystal Palace test, Arteta sees red

Mikel Arteta scored and was then sent off as Arsenal edged Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday to establish a five-point lead at the Premier League summit.
The Spaniard put the visitors ahead with a 47th-minute penalty, but he was contentiously shown a straight red card with 25 minutes remaining for a last-man foul on former Arsenal man Marouane Chamakh.
Second-bottom Palace, who sacked manager Ian Holloway on Wednesday, came close to snatching an equaliser, but Arsenal made sure of victory late on when Olivier Giroud headed home from Aaron Ramsey’s dinked cross.
After an even first period, Arsenal made the breakthrough early in the second half, with Arteta sweeping the ball inside the left-hand post from 12 yards after Adlene Guedioura upended substitute Serge Gnabry.
Gnabry and Giroud both threatened to extend Arsenal’s lead, but Palace were handed a lifeline in the 65th minute when Arteta was sent off for bringing down Chamakh despite the offence occurring around 45 yards from goal.
Palace pressed forward, and Arsenal were indebted to goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for producing two jaw-dropping saves within the space of a minute to thwart Joel Ward and Mile Jedinak.
With three minutes remaining, Ramsey crossed for Giroud to head past Julian Speroni and confirm Arsenal’s return to winning ways following their mid-week defeat by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Edo mobile court convicts 63 for violating sanitation law

A Mobile Court in Fugar, Etsako-Central Local Government Area of Edo State, on Saturday, convicted 63 offenders for violating the environmental sanitation law.
Lawrence Wilson, the presiding judge ordered that the accused persons be taken to prison for seven days or pay a fine of N5, 000 each, in the alternative.

“After reviewing the facts of the cases before me. I hereby convict you all with an option of N5, 000 fine each, which you must pay within seven days or go to jail,” Wilson said. “Your claims that you people were not aware of the environmental sanitation law is not an excuse, because every last Saturday of the month is the sanitation exercise. I am only sentencing you with an option of N5,000 fines each because you all pleaded guilty to the charge.”
Pius Sule, the prosecutor, told the court that the offenders were found loitering during the sanitation exercise.
Sule, who is the Assistant Chief Environmental Health Officer of Etsako-Central local government, urged the court to punish the culprits, to serve as a deterrent to others.
The prosecutor informed the court that the offences contravened Section 12, Sub-section 2, of the Edo State Sanitation Law, 1976.
Emma Aludo, the Supervisor for Health and Environment, said that the exercise was a success due to the enlightenment campaigns by the council on the need to observe the exercise.
Aludo said that the sanitation became necessary to forestall flood as well as keep the environment clean for healthy living.

Enugu council election candidates presented fake documents – ENSIEC

The Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, Dr. Boniface Eneh has said no candidate was disqualified from the November 2, 2013 local government election in the state, on political grounds.
Eneh, who spoke in a media forum at the commission’s office on Friday said candidates were disqualified either for not fulfilling basic requirements or for submitting fake credentials and forged tax clearance certificates.
He disclosed that although six political parties had earlier indicated interest to participate in the election, only the All Progressives Congress, APC, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, actually submitted list of candidates.
“These parties that indicated interest by inviting us to their primaries are: Labour Party, (LP), African Liberation Party (ALP), National Solidarity Democratic Party (NSDP), the All Progressive Congress (APC), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“These are the ones that indicated interest by way of inviting us to their primaries and we did attend all the primaries”, he said.
He noted that aside from Labour Party, the other parties followed up by submitting the names of candidates and the Commission sent in screening team to the local government for the councillorship positions while that of chairmen and their vice were done in ENSIEC headquarters.
Eneh further stated that out of the three political parties, only the PDP chairmanship candidates scaled through the screening process, adding that the APC and APGA candidates were guilty of non-presentation of tax clearance certificates.
According to him, while some of the candidates presented mutilated certificates, others obtained their tax clearance certificates from other states.
“In the process of the screening there were issues which we have to look into. Basically for you to be qualified to run for any of these positions there has to be a certificate; in fact the basic certificate is school certificate or its equivalent. There is also age difference between chairmanship and councillorship candidates.
“This issue of tax clearance also came up and many were not cleared as a result of that. Some presented fake tax clearance certificates, some presented mutilated tax clearance certificates”.
He further disclosed that one of the candidates presented credentials belonging to a woman.
The ENSIEC boss, however, admitted that apart from councillorship candidates, no chairmanship candidate from the opposition party was cleared for the poll.
He said only PDP candidates are contesting chairmanship positions and that voting would be “Yes” or “No” but that for anybody to win he must garner 25 percent of yes votes in two-third number of wards in the local government area.
While dening any form of pressure or control from the state Governor, Sullivan Chime, he said the Commission was following the law.
He said the time for substitution of disqualified candidates could not be extended because the Commission’s hands were tied by the State Electoral Law, even though two out of the three days meant for substitution of candidates fell on public holiday.
He disclosing that the commission had been dragged to court by opposition parties, noting that they were not deterred as the Commission was ready for the elections having procured all the sensitive and non-sensitive materials.
He, however, disclosed that the APC and the APGA councillorship candidates would stand for the election in some wards.

Both sexes tell lies for one reason or the other, no one is judging. So i put together the most common lies men tell. You know when ladies sit together to gossip about their man and they end up saying similar things, that's how i came about this list.

1. “Me? I graduated top of my class.” This is a classic case of the runaway male ego, designed to present a man in the best light and impress a woman. When the lies continue into marriage, it’s not long before the truth will out.

 2. “Of course I like your friends!” The lies to make a woman fall in love or stay in love account for many truth-stretchers. such as inflating one’s accomplishments and wearing designer clothes to appear wealthy and reveal how often they were used in their own relationships. Men were significantly more likely than women to use such deceptions.

3.“Honey, you’re the best.” One of the most lied-about subjects has to be sex. Perhaps that’s because it’s the area where we are most vulnerable. Here again men are likely to lie. In the first rush of romance it makes sense for a man to engage in exaggerated praise of a woman’s beauty and sexuality. But “you’re the best” lies can paralyze a relationship.

4. “No, I can’t call you. I don’t even know where I’ll be.” These are the sad lies, the ones he tells because he’s falling out of love. The more quickly a woman seeks the truth behind these lies, the sooner she can remedy the relationship — or, if necessary, end it. As one friend puts it, “I’d rather have the ax fall than slip down the endless slope of uncertainty and frustration.”

 5. “That dress isn't too tight. It looks great!” By and large, these are the good lies — the ones that show he cares. But kind lies can be too much of a good thing if a man habitually says only what his partner wants to hear. It sets the woman up for rude awakenings. After all, if the dress she’s wearing really is too tight, has he done her a favor? Far better is the tactful truth: “I usually love what you wear, honey, but it just doesn't look quite as good this time.”

 6. “They’re downsizing at work. But don’t worry. They won’t get me.” Many men still feel paternalistic about the women they love, so they lie to spare them worry. But these lies can destroy the very sense of confidence that the man hoped to create. And they can make a woman feel she is not a respected partner in the relationship.

 7. “Sure, I’ll mow the lawn — as soon as this crick in my back goes away.” There are few things that trouble a man more than a woman’s anger — or nagging, as he calls it — so he lies to avoid a scene. It is in “hassle-prevention lying” that men can demonstrate their greatest versatility. - See more at: http://queenofrelationship.blogspot.com/2013/10/7-common-lies-men-tell.html#sthash.VbWHwPSN.dpuf

REVEALED: Okorocha’s Romance With Actresses

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State again has shown that he has a strong tie with Actresses.

Months after sacking Actress, Nkiru Sylvanus as his Special Assistant on Lagos Affairs, he has appointed another Nollywood actress into his cabinet.
The lucky actress is 25 year-old ex-Delta Soap model, Shirley Igwe. She’s now  Okorocha’s Principal Protocol Officer. Her new appointment would entail her coordinating the governor’s daily itinerary, ensuring his comfort and that of his visitors.Shirley has since  resumed duties.
With this appointment, tongues are already wagging about His Excellency’s penchant for actresses especially fair-complexioned ones.
Recall that actress, Nkiru Sylvanus was the first to be appointed into Okorocha’s cabinet as the state’s  Liaison officer in Lagos before she was later redeployed to Owerri,  after which she was relieved of her job. One hopes that Shirley will make the difference.

Two planes collide at Lagos international airport ikeja

We have heard of car collision, trailer collision and sometimes ship collision. But what is weird is when you hear of two planes colliding. this is what happened yesterday on Friday 25th October 2013 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, when a Turkish plane collided with a Max Air plane transporting pilgrims coming from Saudi Arabia.
The incidence occured when a Turkish aircraft that has successfully landed was trying to park and it wings collided with that of max Air which just transported pilgrims from Saudi Arabia.

the two planes as since been taken for repairs as both planes incurred some minor damages.

This is a big drama ooo, i think we have so many planes in Nigeria now that even planes now collide, You can just imagine the kind of big big grammar that would ensure between the airline managers “Wow you batched my plane”. Thank God it was just a minor damage and no life was lost.

Beyonce Shares Stylish Photo Of Herself And Blue Ivy

When she first came out of the Big Brother Africa reality show, Beverly Osu stunned many by denying that she ever had intercourse with South Africa's rep, Angelo, even though almost everyone had clearly watched the video that went viral. Anyway, she is now singing a new song. Below is what she said when quizzed on the issue again:

MY LIFE OUTSIDE BBA…
My life outside BBA has been wonderful. It’s nothing I cannot handle.

THE PAINS AND GAINS…
Well, I’m usually a very busy person, but it’s just that right now, I’ve been a very unstable person. Sometimes, I can’t even stay here in Lagos for a week without traveling here and there. I think that’s a good thing because good things are coming out of it. And apparently, there’s always the negative side and that is mostly things that are not true that you hear about yourself; how people see you and so on. Some people don’t really bother about perception, but if you’re somebody like me, you will think about it and sometimes it will affect your work. But I thank God that my life has been good.

THE SEX SCENE AT THE BBA…
Apparently, I don’t feel sorry because I was being myself. So, I can’t say sorry to anyone who feels disappointed. They’re living their lives and I’m living mine. The only difference is that I was in a house where I had to make the platform work for me; the platform everybody enjoyed seeing me make. If you guys stuck to your television for 91 days only to see my faults, then you should check yourself because people have their faults and it’s only people with faults that quickly notice that in other persons. I don’t criticise people and I don’t think people should critisice me... no matter how you look at it, I’m still a youth.

Jonathan kneels as CAN President leads special prayers for him in Israel

President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan who has been away from the country to Israel on a pilgrimage and official state visit has been criticized because his entourage included the aviation minister, Stella Oduah and the state resources spent on Christian pilgrimage may have been a unnecessary expense.
Despite the criticisms, the president’s pilgrimage has been going on smoothly and was pictured with the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor with other ministers at a prayer session where hands were laid on him.

N255m bulletproof cars: Jonathan snubs Oduah in Israel

Embattled Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, has got the snub of her political career in far-away Israel, it was learnt yesterday.
President Goodluck Jonathan reportedly turned down the minister’s request for an appointment.
The minister is on the president’s entourage to that country.
Sources in Jerusalem said that Oduah made several attempts to have a one-on-one discussion with Jonathan to explain her role in the N255m armoured cars procurement scandal by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The cars were said to have been purchased for her personal use as she was said to be under security threat due to ongoing reforms in the aviation sector.
Since the news broke out, pressures have mounted on the President to relieve her of her job.
Before his pilgrimage to Jerusalem on Wednesday, Jonathan announced the inauguration of a three-man committee to probe the procurement and determine if due process was followed.
A source on the entourage of the President said it would have been out of place for Jonathan to meet with Oduah when the panel he set up is yet to begin sitting or clear her of alleged involvement in the scandal.
The source said: “I can tell you that the minister has not and will never meet with the President here in Jerusalem. This is not to say that she has been found guilty, but it is just fair that the President does not send the wrong signal that may influence the report of the panel.
“We were under strict instruction to prevent the minister from having access to the president for the days we would be spending here. It is, therefore, wrong for anybody to assume that the minister and the President would resolve the issue of the car purchase here. There is nothing like that. I would not describe it as shunning the minister, but it is just something to do.”
Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives Aviation Committee probing the purchase of the two armoured vehicles by the NCAA yesterday flared up at officials of the agency for allegedly evading some questions.
The committee turned down an attempt by the NCAA to bring in a financial expert to answer questions on the deal.
Committee Chairman Nkiruka Onyejeocha told the authority’s acting Director General Joyce Nkemakolon: “As acting DG and chief accounting officer, you did not deem it fit to consult a financial expert while making your decision to procure the two vehicles. It is too late in the day to now call in a financial expert.”
The committee also did not take kindly to the documents presented by the management of the agency to back up its case.
It said the documents did not look real.
Onyejeocha said: “This matter won’t end here because when we come to the papers, going by what you submitted to us, most of them are more or less pro-forma invoices and some look like they were downloaded from the Internet, not real receipts.
“We are going to ask you to bring the receipts of all the transactions you have done in NCAA from January to date because we have not seen anything to show us that they are the real receipts.
“This will not end here.If we cannot get the bulk of what we are looking for from you, we are going to send our own people to go and look at your records from January to date.
“It is after we are in possession of those documents that we can now call on your financial expert because what you submitted is not the true reflection of what actually happened over the period.”
A member of the probe panel, Mathew Omegiara, accused the acting DG of showing disrespect to the panel by suggesting that the organisation’s Director of Finance, Mr, Ozigi, should respond to some questions on the deal.
The Rep snapped: “You are learned enough to know that you can’t spend above certain limits and also that the minister cannot give approval beyond certain limits.”
The NCAA, in the documents submitted to the committee, disputed claims by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) that its purchase of the two cars breached regulations.
The NCAA insisted that it adhered to the procurement laws in the deal.
The BPP had said the purchase, having been in excess of N100million, ought to have been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and not the Ministerial Tenders Board.
However, the aviation agency insisted yesterday that the Appropriation Act 2013 was not breached as what was required to pay for the two vehicles is below the appropriated benchmark for the year.
Besides, it noted that towards the effective implementation of its statutory regulatory responsibilities , it is imperative that it is fully equipped with highly specialized tools and facilities, including adequate operational vehicles to cover all 22 national airports and over 400 airstrips.
It said: “To acquire the vehicles, lease financing was adopted. Lease financing is one of the ways of acquiring fixed assets in both public and private sector organizations. NCAA embarked on lease financing in line with prudential cash flow management.
“Leasing improves cash flow and enables an organization enjoy an asset before fully paying for it. This approach minimizes the effect of initial capital outlay that occurs if outright cash purchase is embarked upon.”
It explained that having identified the need for the controversial cars,it wrote a letter on April 15,2013 to the Ministry of Aviation to seek approval for the procurement. “On the 25th’ of April, 2013, Federal Ministry of Aviation conveyed approval for the acquisition of the operational vehicles through lease financing. “On the strength of the above letter of approval from Federal Ministry of Aviation, the list of all banks in Nigeria was obtained on 7th May, 2013 and were circulated with a Request for Expression of Interest on the financing of the lease. E01 was adopted because the procurement is two sided. First, the financier would have to be selected before the supplier is determined. “This is in line with procurement best practices. “On 24th May, 2013 the Request for Expression of Interest (EOT) was publicly opened and minutes of the opening exercise were documented. “The Evaluation of the Expression of Interest was held on 31st May, 2013 during which First Bank PIc, Union Bank Pic and Stanbic IBTC emerged responsive. “ It said that the three banks were invited on June 10 to submit financial proposals with First Bank emerging the highest rated responsive bidder. That was followed by receipt of invoices from “a credible motor vehicle dealers during which only Coscharis Limited quoted for BMvV Armoured Vehicles. “On 28 June, 2013 NCAA Parastatal Tenders Board approved the selection of First Bank for the Lease Financing as well as Metropolitan Motor Vehicles and Coscharis for the supply of the vehicles. “This approval is predicated on the due process documentations so far done. “Between 8th July, 2013 and August, 2013 various meetings were held with First Bank, contract agreement was signed and necessary documentations were carried out. “On 13th August, 2013, suppliers of the vehicles were contacted on the instance of First Bank. “Payment for the vehicles is in 36 equal monthly instalments, out of which only two have been paid as at 21 October, 2013.”

5 proven ways to make her smile

Everyone has bad days at work. And all she needs at that time is a little boost- especially from the man she loves the most. Send her a text, e-mail her or call her, but tell her she is awesome and that she deserves all the success in the world.

1. Record a voice memo for her
Girls love to know they are appreciated and loved by those close to them. So, while you can pick up the phone and remind her about the same, anytime, it’s actually quite fun and unique if you record a love message telling her how special she is and send that across. It will catch her off guard but not before leaving a smile on her face.
2. Send a cab to pick her up
At the end of a long, boring and annoying day at work or running around the city to attend meetings, the last thing anyone wants is to get on a cramped local train or a metro all the way to home. Make her happy and send a cab to pick her up. She’ll be floored by this gesture.
3. Get creative with emoticons
Call it corny or cheesy, but getting creative with emoticons can actually be hilarious and fun. Create a story, tell her what you want to do and what you have on your mind vis-a-vis emoticons. Get dirty even. Girls love that goofy stuff. Let her respond to your messages with emojis as well. You have to try it to believe it!
4. Download her favourite TV show
TV series are addictive for a reason and everybody loves to watch them, including your spouse. Especially when she is feeling low, girls want nothing more than to vegetate in front of the television. We suggest downloading an entire season of a show she can indulge in without having to wait for the annoying download time. This is the ultimate pleasant surprise on those low days.
5. Remind her she’s awesome
Everyone has bad days at work. And all she needs at that time is a little boost- especially from the man she loves the most. Send her a text, e-mail her or call her, but tell her she is awesome and that she deserves all the success in the world. Want to see her smile reaching her eyes- surprise her by dropping by at her office during the lunch time.

She’s living a Barbie doll life: Nicki Minaj shows off her $400,000 PINK coloured Lamborghini Aventador (PHOTOS)

Let’s just say that subtlety may not be her forte.
It would have been tough to miss rapper Nicki Minaj in her roughly $400,000 Lamborghini Aventador. But what would a Minaj-mobile be without a coat of paint in her trademark Barbie pink.
Minaj’s Pepto-toned Lambo joins her already-vibrant collection that includes a pink Bentley Continental and a—you guessed it—bubblegum Range Rover.

Nicki Minaj poses in the driver’s seat of her $400,000 bright pink Lamborghini Aventador. Watch out for that Chanel necklace, Nicki!
At least she’s consistent.
The “Starships” singer debuted the car at the launch of her Nicki Minaj Collection clothing line for Kmart earlier this week.

I never dropped out of school —Davido

For popular musician, Davido, life has not been a bed of roses. In this interview with JOAN OMIONAWELE, he shares his experiences before fame came his way and opens up on his musical career, private life and plans for the future. You recently returned from your first musical tour. What was the experience like?
It was a great experience. I had to fly, land, perform, fly again, land, and perform. Singing in front of different crowds in different countries was a serious thing but it was a lot of fun. I met so many people. Generally, the tour was a lot of fun.

You’ve achieved fame within such a short period of time. How were you able to do that?
God has had my back, always. It’s all God’s doing. From my single back then, He had said it was my time; and so I kept doing my thing, working hard, spending more time working on the music and sampling all kinds of sounds. That’s how it came about.

Before you became a big shot, what were those days of humble beginnings in the industry like?
They weren’t easy – having to prove that you could do this, or that you could be big and sell records, and then not having people believe you or want to take a chance. I had some rough periods of even hungry days in the studio. Sometimes you got broke, but still just found one way or the other to pull through. I had plenty rough times.

What were your childhood days like?
I had a regular childhood. A whole lot of play and school, sometimes the play would just centre around music.

How did your dad feel about your decision to become a recording artiste?
He didn’t like it at first; but eventually a man understands a man’s need to do his thing and make a name for himself.

Did you drop out of school because you wanted to pursue your musical career?
Who says I dropped out? I’m in my third year in school.

How do you combine your music with your studies successfully? Has building a profession in music affected your studies in anyway?
It’s not been easy, but it’s working one way or the other. Being madly busy is not easy to cope with when you are studying; but it has no choice but to work out.

Why did you decide to go into music?
I was always going to do music as soon as I discovered my flair for it and I was working on sounds too in a studio and some of my friends used to say that I should just try doing my own thing. So, I took it up when I realised that I could actually make some decent sounds. I’ve always nurtured dreams of performing live, so it just had to be done.

Which musicians inspire you?
TuFace, PSquare and the Koko Master (Dbanj). Those guys are really something. The big things they’ve done in this industry are unforgettable. So, that’s my drive as well – to (make) a serious impact.

You travel a lot. Does your girlfriend not complain?
(Laughs) If you know say I get, and you sabi am, go ask am.

You mean you are not dating anyone now?
No.
You must have a lot of ladies trying to get your attention. How has the reception from your female fans been like?
It’s crazy, coupled with the fact that I am young, and with girls in my age group too. Here in Africa and in Europe, the female fan base is wild. I really appreciate it. When guys are feeling you while you perform and also the girls are gingered and sometimes crazier about you, it’s cool.

We have had pictures of you in bed with various kinds of ladies. How has that affected your career?
If it has had any big effect on my career, I’m not sure I know about it, because I am still doing my thing and God still has my back. God did not allow some random act of one person who felt like fooling around to now spoil my career or ruin my image. Sebi they wanted to snap me (take my photograph)? They ‘snapped me’ and went their way…and my life goes on. That’s it.

What deals, endorsements, shows or recognition have you got that were quite memorable for you?
MTN of course. My first advert for MTN Pulse was a big deal for me. It was a great thing to be part of. Also, my shows all over Nigeria and performing in different states make me unable to decide which one is my favourite, seriously. You perform in a state and get mad love from the crowd; and then the next state is even crazier. And that’s how it just keeps going. So, my high points are those moments when my fans show dedication, and show me love like ‘Ah, you be our guy; you be our man, you know?

Which musicians do you dream of working with internationally?
It won’t be bad working with Pitbul, David Guetta, Sean Paul, and Nicki Minaj.

Your dad is wealthy and influential. Would you say his wealth has been a propelling factor in your career?
My father is wealthy, yes, and I am thankful to God for that. One way or the other, in my music career, there’s always a point where the gratitude goes to my father and always a point where my father’s wealth has been a useful factor. As for opening doors, well, maybe. But money is not everything and every part of it, behind the scenes of success is a lot of blood, sweat and tears.

If you were not a musician, what other career path would you have chosen?
Maybe a producer; but if you mean totally out of music, maybe one big businessman.

Reports say you were caught abroad spending fake money. How did that happen?
Go and ask the so called reporters whether na dem put fake currency for my hand. How does that even make sense? We were in Europe and spending good hard-earned money, even when the person we had a deal with was defaulting, and didn’t want to pay us. So it was just some rubbish they cooked up to spoil our names, and get away with breaking our contract. But of course, we don pass that one, so na dem sabi.

What’s the most expensive thing you have ever pampered yourself with?
My house! But if that doesn’t count as pampering, then maybe one of my Rolexes that the price tag can give somebody ‘Apollo’.

You have so many tattoos. Are you just following the trend or you’re doing your own thing?
I feel the need to ink my skin, so I do it. Simple. It’s my desire and that’s all.

What’s the craziest thing you have ever done on stage?
(Laughs) Nothing too wild; I just kissed a girl from the stage.

Some of your fans complain that you don’t have strong lyrics but only project the elitist life?
It’s what we need to drive the sounds; those kinds of lyrics are what the industry, as it is, is moved by. I can decide now to bring out the deepest of my emotions through lyrics. And you know, they will say Davido is boring.

In your dull moments, what do you do to get back in line?
I just make a mad beat, or take a trip to somewhere of interest.

How do you relax?
I go to the most exotic resorts and lounges in any country I’m currently in. Then sometimes I like to just (relax) with my headphones and just jam for hours, undisturbed.
